This Henri Boillot Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère 2017 is a great wine which will be at the top of the list for any informed Burgundy collector. It is hailed as one of the 10 Best Puligny-Montrachets of 2017.

Henri Boillot is one of the most respected winemakers in Burgundy, a producer at the epicentre of great French winemaking. This 2017 is considered the best Mouchere ever made (other than the amazing 2020), better even than the fabulous 2014 and 2009 vintages.

Henri Boillot has an extraordinary reputation for the sheer finesse of his Burgundy wines. The quality coming from these up to 80 year old vines is fast developing a cult following and a stunning reputation, often outscoring Leflaive’s and Ramonet’s Montrachet. It’s the highest ever scored Mouchere from barrel in Vinous.com history and genuinely one of the most exciting releases of the year.

The top Burgundy critics’ notes speak for themselves:

94/96 William Kelley, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: ‘From an enclave within the premier cru Perrières, Boillot’s 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère is utterly superb this year, wafting from the glass with aromas of lemon oil, mandarin orange, beeswax, iodine and subtle smoky reduction. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, satiny and layered, with striking volume and depth at the core, balanced by incisive acids that animate the long, mineral finish. Guillaume Boillot speculates that this monopole’s comparative variety of mesoclimates and soil types lends the resulting wine greater complexity than would be the case with a small cuvée.’

94/100 – Vinous, Neal Martin: ‘Harmonious and poised with wonderful weight and precision toward the finish, where veins of white peach furnish the seductive aftertaste. Absolutely delicious. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune. Drinking window 2023 to 2042.’

94/100 – Burghound, Allen Meadows: ‘First-rate volume to the caressing yet powerful flavours that possess excellent mid-palate density before concluding in a highly energetic, complex and beautifully well-balanced finale.’

18/20 – Jancis Robinson: ‘Big and bold with great density. Massively concentrated and ambitious. Anticipated maturity: 2021-2030.’

Producer tasting notes: ‘Hue: Pale yellow with hints of green—bright. Nose: white acacia blossom, lemon blossom, peach, pink grapefruit—intense. Palate: Rich—deep—dense. Superb minerality, full-bodied. Great length and energy with very pure saltiness. A great wine.’ – Domaine Henri Boillot.
