A longstanding CountryClubuk Cellar favourite returns in an impressive new vintage. Amalaya Malbec 2024 comes from the extraordinary high-altitude vineyards of Argentina’s Calchaquí Valley, where intense sunlight, cool nights and poor, rocky soils help create wines of remarkable concentration without sacrificing freshness. The blend of 85% Malbec, 10% Tannat and 5% Petit Verdot gives the wine depth and structure, while restrained French-oak ageing adds complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
Tasted blind, the CountryClubuk Wine Tasting Panel unanimously approved the 2024, finding dark fruit, spice, herbs, anise and chocolate, together with an important freshness and unmistakably youthful character. At dinner it became more expressive still, proving particularly successful with Chef’s Black Angus ribeye and rosemary fries.
Previous vintages of Amalaya have won major international acclaim, and the 2024 earns our recommendation entirely on its own merits: deep, characterful, fresh and already thoroughly enjoyable.

Amalaya Malbec 2024 comes from one of the world’s most extraordinary wine-growing landscapes. In Argentina’s Calchaquí Valley, vineyards at around 1,700–1,800 metres experience intense sunlight, very dry conditions and dramatic differences between daytime and night-time temperatures. Combined with poor, rocky and sandy soils, these conditions produce concentrated fruit while preserving the freshness that has become one of Amalaya’s signatures.
The 2024 is 85% Malbec, 10% Tannat and 5% Petit Verdot, with 25% of the wine spending eight months in used French oak. The result is generous without becoming heavy. The producer finds ripe fruit, pepper, spice, floral notes and a touch of vanilla; tasted blind, the CountryClubuk Wine Tasting Panel found dark fruit, herbs, anise and chocolate alongside the spice, but repeatedly returned to the wine’s freshness. Clearly youthful, it is nevertheless already very enjoyable and was unanimously approved for the Club Cellar.
Amalaya has been a CountryClubuk favourite through several vintages, with an impressive history of international recognition: the 2019 received 97 points from Decanter, while the 2021 achieved 95 points and a coveted Decanter World Wine Awards Platinum Medal. The Panel nevertheless judges each succeeding vintage afresh, and the 2024 has comfortably earned its place.
At the table, it was excellent with Black Angus ribeye, while rosemary fries drew out its savoury herbal character. Lamb, game, slow-braised meats, rich meat ragù, Mediterranean roasted vegetables and mature hard cheeses are other natural partners.
