Lois the Lamb steps out from the flock: Dora Designs’ woolly friend takes up door duty

There is no mistaking the family resemblance. Lois shares the cream curly fleece and distinctive black-and-gold brocade of Dora Designs’ celebrated flock of sheep, but while her numerous relations were lined up to keep out the draughts, Lois has been given an altogether more individual appointment.

Designed by Angela Stevens for the Dora Designs Traditional Range, she is a particularly engaging little sheep. Her generously woolly coat surrounds a beautifully patterned brocade face, with matching ears and feet and a pair of bright eyes which give her a surprisingly knowing expression.

She is weighted with sand for practical service as a doorstop and, at approximately 1kg, has enough substance to remain where she is stationed. Measuring around 16cm to the top of her woolly head and approximately 34cm from nose to tail tip, she is compact enough to move readily from sitting room to study, bedroom or wherever a door requires her attention.

The usefulness is undeniable; the pleasure is in having her there. Lois has that Dora Designs ability to turn an ordinary household necessity into something with a personality of its own.

A single sheep, perhaps, but quite capable of holding her own.
