The new-season Gurteen Woodstock Jacket in Spice Herringbone – a very good reason to wear tweed again

Original price was: £315.00.Current price is: £185.00.

This is a particularly good piece of tweed. Gurteen call it Spice Herringbone, which neatly describes a cloth that refuses to settle for being merely brown. Olive, lovat and warm earthy tones run through the herringbone, with a restrained wine-coloured check appearing across the surface. From a few paces it looks wonderfully composed; come closer and the richness of the weave reveals itself.

Gurteen have cut it in their Woodstock Modern fit, giving the jacket a clean, shaped line without making it fashionably tight. The two-button front, neat shoulder and balanced proportions keep everything properly tailored, while the pure wool cloth has exactly the texture and substance one wants as autumn arrives.

And the photograph gets the mood exactly right. Pale blue Oxford shirt, navy knitted tie and dark cords – nothing complicated, because good tweed doesn’t require much assistance. Grey flannels, moleskins and our Pytchley cords will be equally happy companions.

A handsome pure wool jacket, beautifully cut, in one of the most interesting country cloths we’ve seen this season.
