The Champagne critics are loud in their praise of this Piper-Heidsieck vintage 2014. An elegant, radiant and intense vintage from one of the best recent vintages in Champagne, it took ‘Best in Show’ at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards, among many other connoisseur awards and accolades. Our Tasting Panel highly recommend this fine vintage Champagne. Drinking beautifully now, it has the potential to cellar for a further 15 years.

The awards say it all. Champagne guru Tom Stevenson ranks Piper-Heidsieck as one of Champagne’s five most under-valued Houses, and our Tasting Panel agree—particularly at the exclusive preferential Club price for this real gem of a vintage Champagne.

This 2014 vintage comprises Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes primarily from Grands Crus and Premiers Crus from a blend of 19 villages, spending more than five years’ ageing on the lees. It boasts Chardonnays with sensational crispness, and fruity and sophisticated Pinot Noirs. Its nose delivers notes of orange blossom, apricot and brioche and toasted almond. The palate unveils flavours of tangerine, lime and liquorice.

Among the expert reviews:

Essi Avellan MW: ‘Charmingly fruity and inviting nose, with soft vanilla-coated notes of red apple, peach, mirabelle plum and lemon curd, all enveloped in a complex toasty whole. Similarly joyful fireworks of fruit continue on the rich, rounded palate, which is beautifully silky and juicy, with a fine acid line leading to a long, sweetly fruity finish. A seductive vintage ready to impress.’

Tim Atkin MW, ‘An expressive golden yellow fruit profile with some pineapple/mango cream exuberance and plenty of Piper zest. The depth is creamy, the autolytic richness bringing a measured savour to the sweet-natured fruit, the precision and acidity in place for medium term. A fine vintage and cements just how refined and coherent the Piper lineup is today.’

James Suckling MW, ‘Complex notes of figs, red apples, golden pears, walnuts and lemon conserve on toast. Medium-bodied, with bright acidity and a textured, phenolic palate. Tight bubbles. Dry feel. Delicious now.’

Wine Enthusiast’s Roger Voss: ‘A perfectly mature Champagne, this is just ready to drink. Fresh fruits contrast with the mature toastiness. The blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay gives texture plus minerality in harmony.’

Andreas Larsson ‘Light golden colour with a green hue and vivid mousse. Pure nose, fine reductive style with lime zest, lemongrass, white peach, pistachio and fresh butter. Sleek texture with a bright freshness, youthful fruit with zesty lime and citrus flavours, young but well-integrated mousse, some buttery notes and a long, lingering finish. Nice purity and brightness, should develop well.’
