3 Stars – Le Guide Hachette
Gold Medal – Concours de Bordeaux
Château Laville Sauternes 2018 took the Gold Medal and notched up 96/100 points—being named ‘classic, a great wine’—at the Decanter World Wine Awards, and it shows. The multi-award-winning 2018 is indeed a classic, drinking beautifully now.
Awarding 3 Stars, the prestigious Le Guide Hachette des Vins notes: ‘A new favourite for this 2018 Cru, Château Laville has all the qualities you would expect from a Sauternes classic. This is a Sauternes that gives an expressive nose of dried fruit, with notes of candied apricot, creating a feel of great richness. This wine is luxurious and powerful on the palate, with a lovely, voluptuous texture and a lively finish with notes of exotic fruit. A very lovely, truly traditional Sauternes to delight lovers of this appellation!’
The Château Laville 2018 white obtained a 3-star rating, which corresponds to an exceptional wine. The juries awarded him a Coup de Cœur.
A very old property, Château Laville was in the 1900s one of the pioneers of bottling at the château. It is the family property of Jean-Christophe Barbe, a winemaking wizard and acknowledged expert—he is a Professor of Oenology at the University of Bordeaux, where his area of expertise is ‘noble rot’. This, as a Sauternes fine wine producer, he has had plenty of opportunity to study at first hand. A frequent recipient of top international awards, including several Gold Medals and a DWWA Trophy, Laville Sauternes is one of Bordeaux’s best-kept secrets.
