This beautiful jacket in Donegal handwoven tweed is not only luxurious, its colours and pattern seem to embody the Irish countryside. It is a really handsome jacket, lovely to look at, comfortable to wear, a piece of Irish history—and one of our Members’ favourites.
Still woven in a weaver’s cottage, this exquisite cloth is part of an unbroken tradition in Ireland going back centuries. It is washed in the peaty waters of the River Eske to soften the fibres before being sent for tailoring.
The finished tweed is not only handsome, it is rugged and practical, as the tight, warm weave resists wind, rain, mist and frost. The texture feels comfortable from the first time you wear it—it is not a ‘hairy’—and it just looks better and better as time goes on.
The finished jacket is beautifully tailored, as befitting the fine cloth, and cut in a flattering two-button style, with two side vents. It carries a signed label as authentic Donegal tweed. It is beautifully lined in gold satin, and has four inside pockets.
There are four colours: The new Blue Lough, which blends the colours of an Irish lough in spring and summer; The Ring of Kerry, like an Irish landscape of earthy greens and browns; rown Snipe, a lighter mixture of soft browns, creams and greys with a dash of red, and Grey Lough, a blend of dark grey-blues with a touch of purple.
This is a jacket you will wear for ever. Sizes: Short fitting (in 38-46in chest), regular (in 38-52in), long (42-50in).
