There is something about the expression which suggests that, although this Cocker Spaniel may be lying down, he has by no means decided that the day’s activities are over.
Designed by Angela Stevens, founder of Dora Designs, he is a splendid interpretation of the sporting Cocker — bright-eyed, attentive and apparently quite prepared to spring into action should circumstances require it.
His wonderfully tactile coat is worked in black and light-grey bouclé, giving him the characteristic dark, slightly tousled appearance of a Cocker who might more usually be found somewhere between the gun room and the great outdoors. Long ears frame an appealing, watchful face, while his outstretched paws and splendid tail give him an unusually lifelike presence.
He is, nevertheless, here on practical business. Weighted for door duty, he will lie patiently at his post while keeping an eye on proceedings.

Anyone who knows a sporting Cocker will recognise the look. He may be lying comfortably at your feet, but the eyes remain attentive and the ears are quite capable of detecting the first suggestion that something more interesting is about to happen.
This fellow from Dora Designs captures that quality remarkably well. Designed by Angela Stevens, he lies with his head raised and front paws stretched before him, his long ears falling either side of an inquisitive face. The black and light-grey bouclé gives his coat wonderful texture and an agreeably tousled appearance; even at rest, he seems to possess that particular mixture of enthusiasm and expectation for which the Cocker is known.
At approximately 48cm from front paw to tail tip, he has a little more presence than his photograph might suggest. He is weighted, of course, so that all this sporting promise can be put to the useful domestic purpose of holding a door in place.
And there he will remain: watching the comings and goings, requiring neither exercise nor supper, and apparently missing very little.
For a Cocker household, a shooting home, or simply someone who knows why that expression means the dog isn’t really asleep, he is very good company indeed.
