There are hedgehogs, and then there is Posh Bertie Bristles.
One of Dora Designs’ most enduring characters, Bertie has been charming households for many years—and in this particularly smart incarnation he arrives dressed for the country house in handsome grey patterned fabric, complete with a magnificent coat of wonderfully tactile faux-fur bristles.
At 23cm tall, Bertie is reassuringly substantial and beautifully made, with button-bright eyes, a neatly embroidered smile and splendidly detailed little paws.
His official occupation, of course, is holding open doors. But like so many Dora Designs characters, Posh Bertie has rather more personality than his job description might suggest.
And we think he has found just the right home here at the Club.

A CountryClubuk friend in waiting, Bertie Bristles is something of a Dora Designs institution.
The much-loved hedgehog character first joined the Dora family many years ago and went on to become one of their enduring favourites. This particularly handsome Posh Bertie Bristles version gives him an appropriately distinguished country-house wardrobe.
His softly patterned grey fabric has the appearance of a traditional woven textile, beautifully complemented by a wonderfully generous covering of dark faux-fur bristles. Contrasting ears and carefully fashioned paws provide the finishing touches, while those bright little eyes and gently smiling face give Bertie the expression of a fellow who is perfectly content with his place in the household.
And useful he most certainly is.
Weighted to perform his duties as a proper doorstop, Bertie will sit patiently beside a door in the hall, study, sitting room or bedroom, keeping it obediently in place without making the slightest fuss.
At around 23cm tall, he is substantial enough to make his presence felt without himself becoming an obstacle to progress.
He also makes a particularly appealing present. Hedgehog lovers will naturally be smitten, but we suspect Bertie’s combination of country fabrics, gentle humour and unmistakable personality will appeal to anyone who prefers useful things around the home to have a little character of their own.
Original Dora Designs characters such as Posh Bertie are now becoming increasingly difficult to find, but happily we still have him here at the Club for Members.
