Alpha Zeta Terrapieno, single vineyard Italian white from the Veneto: delicious 100% Pinot Grigio at an amazingly good price: case of 12 bottles delivered

£147.00

This delicious Pinot Grigio from the Veneto is a hidden gem. Beautifully made by Matt Thomson, unlike so many cheap, dilute offerings of this grape variety, this single-vineyard Italian white is a model of what Pinot Grigio should taste like.

The nine-hectare Terrapieno vineyard is situated at 200 metres above sea level in the Valpantena Valley on the outskirts of the beautiful ancient city of Verona. The grapes were harvested as whole berries using a Pelanc harvester, helping to reduce skin contact. Fermentation took place at cool temperatures to help retain the fruit and acidity.

This the 2023 vintage was very hot and dry, which led to reduced yields of extremely concentrated grapes of excellent quality. It has great intensity and balance, with lifted aromas of pear and bread crust, classic for Pinot Grigio from this region. The nose gives way to lovely weight and a silky texture on the palate, with hints of dried herbs. The wine finishes dry with a zesty acidity and a saline minerality on the finish.

Here is what the Sommeliers had to say about this fantastic value white from the Veneto: ‘It has a lovely, aromatic profile, with melon, apple and white flowers leading to a nice, fresh texture and a long finish. Really beautifully balanced and well-structured.’
