The Colony Grill at the Beaumont Hotel: ‘London’s best steak restaurant’, says Tatler: ‘Food you want to eat in a room you want to linger’, says Tom Parker Bowles: New York style, British elegance—and for you, a complimentary glass of Champagne!

London’s best steak restaurant is the Colony Grill at the Beaumont Hotel in Mayfair—Tatler says so, and we do not disagree. It’s also stylish, comfortable, and a place to enjoy food and ambience in equal measure. That doyen of restaurant critics A A Gill said the Colony has the best cuisine-appropriate interiors in London. A relaxed, sophisticated, New York-style grill room, it has a timeless menu of transatlantic favourites, steaks, seafood and salads, with, as they say, ‘a big helping of old-world glamour’.

The style is created with an eye to Nathaniel Newnham-Davies’ 1914 ‘Gourmet Guide to London’: ‘The modern Grill Room we owe, I think, to the Americans for the travelling American . . . has his own very sensible ideas as to what comfort is. The grill-room gives him an excellent dinner, just as long or short as he likes, served quickly, in luxurious surroundings, and he can dress as he likes, to eat it.’ That sums it all up. Guide Michelin calls The Colony, ‘Defiantly old fashioned… effortlessly chic.’ And Tom Parker-Bowles adds, ‘It serves food you want to eat, in a room in which you want to linger… A gleaming gem.’ It’s hotel, the Beaumont, is another gleaming gem, already one of our Members’ favourites.

The Colony menu is a delight, both comforting and temptingly mouthwatering. Steaks may well include everything from Dry Aged Rib Eye and Fillet to Suffolk Wagyu Strip, Hereford Hanger and Hereford Tartar, plus a whopping Tomahawk for two. All are served with your choice of an array of fresh-made sauces, from red wine bordelaise to green peppercorn, whipped béarnaise, horseradish, café de paris snails and blue cheese with sides of triple-cooked chips, buttermilk mash, broccoli black garlic, creamed spinach nutmeg and Charlotte potatoes wakame butter. If all this is making your mouth water, well, so it should. There is more, much more . . .

Seafood includes caviar and oysters, Dover sole, Arctic char and Monkfish Wellington and more. There’s London club favourites such as calves liver with caramelised onions and cured bacon, and, for a snack, whipped smoked cod’s roe or truffled toast. The wine list is excellent.

Service, American style courteous, is a hallmark of the dining experience at the Colony Grill. Waiters are suave in monochrome uniforms and fluent in the merits of the different cuts and qualities of the steaks and seafood, delivering the information with style and expertise.

This restaurant is good news—and for our Members the even better news is that you and your guests can enjoy a glass of Champagne when you lunch or dine on three courses or more. For full details, and to book, please call Member Services on 020 7399 2960 or follow the link below.
