A duet of two almost indistinguishable pinstripe colours create this fine navy suit: a red shadow stripe and a tramline blue stripe. The effect is beautifully elegant.

The suit is extremely well cut in a fine, high-quality 270g (10oz) wool with all the finer details that make it a gentleman’s suit, including hand stitching and finishing.

It is beautifully lined in paisley claret satin and plain navy, with all the necessary pockets. The lapels are hand stitched, the collar lined. The trousers are flat front, half lined to give better drape, comfort and wear, and they are flat fronted, suiting an elegant frame. There are two deep side pockets and two rear pockets.

MA01. The critical things to get right are the three c’s—cut, construction and cloth. The resulting jacket just looks good: close to the body, slim but not tight, no sagging shoulders nor bagginess. It was Beau Brummell who worked with the English fine cloth makers and tailors of London, setting rules in suit construction which still pertain. Hand stitching is a mark of quality; around the lapels, for example, it creates the perfect ‘roll’ to ensure the lapels lie flat. The more hand stitching, the better, important even when unseen, such as in the lining. The collar needs a felt lining to stabilise its line.
