The superb Club cotton city shirt: top Jermyn Street quality for a mere £29: Members save £51
Here is a fine city shirt good enough to bear the CountryClubuk label. Made for our Members in the traditional way by skilled family tailors who have been in business for three generations, the quality is so high that it sells in St James’s for £80 or more.
In fact our shirt has all the hallmarks of a Jermyn Street shirt, with several extra features that, to the expert, mark a fine garment from the rest and give a better fit, greater comfort and extra durability.
They include the long-staple pure cotton poplin cloth; the traditional single needle stitching (as opposed to double), a costly procedure that gives fine, strong seams; and sewing at 20 stitches to the inch (the average is 15), again to improve the strength and quality of the seams.
The collar is an elegant, flattering shape (not too wide), and is made with a separate top and band to create the ‘spring’ which gives it that stylish natural tendency to turn and remain in place; the collar stiffeners can (and should) be removed for washing, which keeps a collar in prime condition; the two-piece split yoke replicates the slope of a man’s shoulder, giving greater comfort and a better fit; a strong side gusset adds strength and contour to the tail. The cuffs are rounded to prevent them being caught on a jacket (again, an expensive but important detail) and come in French (turned back) double cuff style; the buttons are sewn with crossed lock stitch so they stay on, and there are spare buttons for the collar and the rest of the shirt.
Our Club shirts are made in the two classic colours: white and pale blue. Collar sizes are from 15in to 18in. Cuffs are French (double cuffs, for cufflinks).
