Gurteen Esquire 1784: best price for this beautiful, well-cut, pure wool jacket in moss green with burgundy and navy overchecks: 42in chest, regular fitting
This fine jacket immediately caught our eye. It’s a handsome, well-cut, well-tailored classic in pure wool from English tailors Gurteen, the sort of classic country jacket which is less and less easy to find. It looks and feels high quality, a superb example of Gurteen’s excellent eye for classical pure wool cloth—an elegant shade of moss green with subtle burgundy and navy overchecks. This makes it so versatile you can wear it with almost any colours, from blues, reds and browns to yellows, greens and greys, for both smart and casual occasions.
The result is a smart and masculine jacket, the perfect medium weight for autumn through to spring. It is very well tailored in classic two-button style with leather football buttons, single-breasted with double side vents, slant front pockets including that mark of sartorial style, a ticket pocket, all flapped and jetted, a slant breast pocket and notched lapels. There are four internal pockets in the smart claret lining, so you can stash your keys, wallet and mobile phone with ease.
It is from Gurteen’s prestige Esquire range. Size: Regular fitting, 42in chest.

Gurteen is an English family run tailoring business established in Haverhill, Suffolk, in 1784, where it is still situated today. The company started life making smocks which was the general garment at that time and as the years moved on, so too did the clothing. From making Army uniforms during World War One and World War Two, to measuring up and making the suits for the English Rugby team, the company has always met a challenge. The business is still retained and managed by family members, and the passion for men’s tailoring burns as fiercely today as it did back in 1784.
