A cocker spaniel flushes a woodcock—a joyful moment in time, stirring and evocative, caught for ever by an artist in bronze. This vibrant new limited edition bronze by wildlife artist Michael Simpson beautifully captures the working cocker at the start of the new shooting season.
An accomplished sculptor, inspired by the traditions of his home country, the Staffordshire Potteries, Michael Simpson has a master’s eye for the wildlife and sport he sees around him. Here, he catches the cocker in mid-flush, its speed and sheer exuberance held for a split second. We know that the dog has worked fast and hard for this moment, quartering the country in true spaniel style. The dog is a master of the art—his body plunges forward, his eye is fixed on the rising bird. You can almost hear the sound of the dog’s crash into the brush, and the beat of the rising woodcock’s wings. Questions arise: Will the Gun be ready? Will the woodcock fly on unscathed? Who can tell? Both dog and bird are captured in their natural element, in a scene filled with joy.
This beautiful sculpture will enhance any room—and be coveted by any sportsman and lover of the natural world. The edition is limited to 200 pieces and the bronze stands 4 1/4 in (11cm) tall and 5 3/4in (14.5cm) wide. It arrives in a smart presentation case with its individual number in the edition, making a discerning and valued collector’s item.
