Not every new ship deserves the excitement that surrounds it. The travel world is never short of launches, announcements and grand promises, and each year brings a procession of new hotels, resorts and cruise ships, all claiming to offer something extraordinary. Yet experienced travellers know that genuine advances in luxury travel are surprisingly rare. Most often, new simply means different.
Which is why Seven Seas Prestige has attracted so much attention.

What interests us is not simply that she is Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ newest ship, nor even that she is likely to inherit the mantle of the world’s most luxurious cruise ship from her celebrated sister, Seven Seas Explorer. Rather, it is that Prestige appears to have been designed around the things discerning travellers increasingly value most. At a time when so much of the travel industry seems intent on becoming larger, busier and more crowded, Regent has chosen to focus on space, comfort, privacy and service. Those qualities have always been important, of course, but they feel particularly valuable today.
Prestige represents Regent’s first entirely new ship class in more than a decade and, whilst she has cost some £650 million to create, the most interesting thing about her is not the investment itself but what that investment has achieved. She is approximately forty per cent larger than Regent’s already spacious Explorer-class ships, yet carries only around ten per cent more guests. The result is one of the most generous space ratios at sea and, for guests, that translates into something far more meaningful than a statistic. It means a greater sense of calm, more room to relax and an atmosphere that feels unhurried from the moment you step aboard.

Space, after all, has become one of the great luxuries of modern life.
One of the pleasures of sailing with Regent has always been the feeling that there is room to breathe. A quiet corner in which to read. A comfortable seat with a view of the ocean. A restaurant where service feels attentive rather than rushed. A private balcony from which to watch the coastline emerge on the horizon. Prestige takes that philosophy and elevates it further. Throughout the ship there is a sense that every detail has been designed not simply to impress but to enhance the experience of being there.

That begins with the accommodation. Every room aboard Prestige is a suite and every suite includes a private balcony. Even the entry-level categories offer generous living space, marble bathrooms, walk-in wardrobes, luxurious bedding and uninterrupted ocean views. Open the door to your suite and it feels less like entering a cabin and more like arriving at a beautifully appointed private apartment overlooking the sea.

The upper suite categories are naturally more dramatic. The new Horizon Penthouse Suites feature expansive balconies designed for outdoor living, creating an effortless transition between interior comfort and the open air. The striking Grand Loft Suites introduce soaring double-height spaces and floor-to-ceiling windows, whilst the remarkable Skyview Suites offer private upper terraces and a residential atmosphere unlike anything previously seen in the Regent fleet. At the very top sits the extraordinary Skyview Regent Suite, an accommodation so ambitious in scale and design that it effectively redefines what a luxury cruise ship suite can be.

Yet impressive though these suites undoubtedly are, they are not the real story. The real story is what life aboard Prestige is likely to feel like.
Experienced Regent guests understand that some of the finest moments of a voyage happen not ashore but between destinations. A leisurely breakfast as the sea glistens beyond the window. A long lunch that drifts comfortably into the afternoon. An hour spent reading on a private balcony as the ship crosses an ocean. Dinner with friends, followed by conversation, music and perhaps one final glass of wine before retiring beneath a starlit sky. Prestige feels uniquely well suited to these moments, and it is perhaps here that her appeal becomes most obvious.

Dining, naturally, remains central to the experience. Alongside beloved Regent venues such as Prime 7, Pacific Rim, Chartreuse, Compass Rose and La Veranda comes Azure, an entirely new Mediterranean-inspired restaurant created specifically for the Prestige Class. Whether enjoying an elaborate tasting menu, perfectly grilled seafood, a leisurely breakfast or simply a glass of wine overlooking the ocean, guests will find the emphasis remains firmly on quality rather than quantity. Regent has never sought to overwhelm with choice alone; the pleasure lies in how well everything is done.

The same philosophy extends throughout the ship. Elegant lounges, floor-to-ceiling windows, beautifully crafted public spaces and thoughtful design details create an atmosphere that feels refined without ever becoming formal. The Constellation Theatre hosts performances and guest speakers, the spa offers a sanctuary of relaxation, and throughout the ship there are places simply to sit and enjoy the view. In many ways, Prestige feels like a ship built for travellers who understand that luxury is not about constant stimulation but about having the freedom to spend time exactly as one chooses.

Of course, all of this is complemented by the inclusions for which Regent is renowned. Unlimited shore excursions, speciality dining, premium beverages, WiFi, gratuities and attentive service are woven seamlessly into the experience, removing the small distractions that can sometimes intrude upon a holiday and allowing guests to focus instead on the pleasures of the voyage itself.
Perhaps that is why Prestige feels so timely. Many travellers today are not looking for more destinations, more attractions or more distractions. They are looking for better experiences. Better service. Better accommodation. Better dining. Better use of their time. Everything we have seen suggests that Seven Seas Prestige has been designed around precisely those priorities.
We suspect many guests will choose Seven Seas Prestige because she is Regent’s newest ship. Yet the reason they return may prove much simpler. Prestige appears to have been created around the pleasure of travelling well: generous space, thoughtful service, excellent food and the reassuring sense that every detail has been quietly taken care of.
In a world that increasingly seems determined to hurry us along, that may prove to be the greatest luxury of all.

Among the inaugural voyages that have particularly caught our attention are Prestige’s elegant Southampton-Southampton sailing through Bordeaux, Bilbao, Paris and Atlantic France, and her beautiful Rome to Trieste sailing via Capri, Malta, Dubrovnik, Mount Etna and Vesuvius.
