Morris is the 19th century’s most celebrated designer, as well as being a poet, novelist and polymath. ‘Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful,’ he wrote—and here in Morris’s creative designs, all now in the collection of the V&A in London, and Fox & Chafe’s well-made pure silk ties, both use and beauty combine.
