This distinguished charcoal grey suit by Magee of Donegal has an unexpected twist: a triple lilac pinstripe which looks both smart and elegant and elevates the classic grey pinstripe suit into a style item.

Appropriately well cut in 340g (12oz) pure wool, fine tailoring details include hand stitching on lapels and lining and felt collar lining. The ultra-smart paisley claret and blue lining contains a multitude of pockets.

The trousers are half lined to give better drape, comfort and wear, and they are flat fronted, suiting an elegant frame (if you prefer a single pleat, just let us know). There are two deep side pockets and two rear pockets.

The critical things to get right are the three c’s—cut, construction and cloth. The resulting jacket just looks good: close to the body, slim but not tight, no sagging shoulders nor bagginess. It was Beau Brummell who worked with the English fine cloth makers and tailors of London, setting rules in suit construction which still pertain. Hand stitching is a mark of quality; around the lapels, for example, it creates the perfect ‘roll’ to ensure the lapels lie flat. The more hand stitching, the better, important even when unseen, such as in the lining. The collar needs a felt lining to stabilise its line.
