And Croots, who have been making their fine leather bridle hide pieces in the heart of Yorkshire racing country since 1978, are at the top of their game.

They create their leather gunslips in two different styles, the Malton and, here, the Byland, which is a high-quality handmade slip in three colours of hide—Dark Havana, Ox Blood and London Tan—the leathers tanned using natural drum dyeing and finishing processes to give a luxurious look and feel. This grade of leather is bridle hide, developed for English saddlery and bespoke shoes, ensures it performs beautifully as well as looking good. The Byland has vegetable-tanned bridle leather straps and trims with solid brass buckles and hand-stitched detail throughout. It has a full padded fleece lining, protecting the gun from knocks as well as helping to absorb any moisture. It has a classic opening and buckle fastened flap, with an extra full-zip opening for easy drying. A comfortable leather shoulder sling makes carrying easy.
