Dear Member

Join us on one of the world’s most exotic and romantic journeys, the Eastern & Oriental Express, a Belmond train, from Singapore to Langkawi island in February 2026, for a journey evoking the Golden Age of travel. We shall enjoy three nights and four days on board the Eastern & Oriental Express as it glides through forests and beside coastal islands, via Penang and Kuala Lumpur on the west coast route, and four nights in a five-star hotel which not only has some of the finest views of Singapore, but is part of British history and has been designated a National Monument.

The dates are February 6-15, 2026, and we have secured en-suite cabins for two, travelling on this sought-after route of the Eastern & Oriental Express in high season. This nine-night, 10-day trip is unmissable—and Club Members can save up to £2,000 for two!

The Eastern & Oriental Express, Belmond’s luxury train in Malaysia, is a travelling memoir of a beguiling age. The train and its carriages were discovered and restored by Belmond’s founder James Sherwood—who also famously rediscovered the iconic Orient-Express—and the first Eastern & Oriental Express pulled out of Bangkok bound for Singapore just 30 years ago. Now this great train is taking us on a journey into the heart of Malaysia.

We shall step inside those original rail cars with their signature cream and green exterior giving way to polished wood-panelled corridors and silken furnishings, polished brass, sumptuous upholstery and antique fixtures, to make our way across tropical Malaysia in a frisson of excitement. The mystique of Southeast Asia’s palatial history lingers throughout, from the carriages to the crisp linen, the French silverware and heavy crystal glassware, the personal stewards and white-gloved service, as faultless as one would expect of this grand hotel on wheels. The carriages are meticulously maintained, having been beautifully restored during the four-year interregnum when the train was in the hands of the expert craftsmen who have recreated its original beauty and more.

Feb 13, Explore Singapore followed by night at the Fullerton;

Feb 14, Return overnight flight, Singapore to London UK, arriving in UK on Feb 15.

A world of wonders awaits us. As the Eastern & Oriental Express pulls away from Singapore we shall have time to relax and let the atmosphere of the train sink in. There’s much to marvel at, even in the Pullman cabin’s ingenious en-suite design. A plush daytime sofa is transformed into cosy upper and lower berth beds with crisp damask sheets by our cabin steward while we dine in the evening. The beds are then whisked away again after breakfast. This smoothly discreet service is all part of the experience. And if we prefer not to climb up to bed, we may upgrade to State Twin or Double cabins—or the glamorous Presidential Suite!

And then there’s the famous Eastern & Oriental Bar, truly the place to be for the de rigueur pre-dinner drink. Toast the evening with Champagne or a Gin Sling as you revel in the ambience of the train as it rolls through the warm night air. As the vintage lights glow against the polished wood and brass, the pianist starts to play, all creating the mood of romance and delight.

And besides feasting our eyes on this magical scene, we’ll feast on the Eastern & Oriental cuisine. Take a seat in the elegant restaurant cars, Malaya and Adisorn, for the delicious four-course dinner being prepared by a batterie of chefs under the watchful eye of the superbly talented Chef André Chiang.

We shall dine surrounded by interior décor inspired by lush tea plantations and the deep hues of Malaysian jungle, discovering Chef André’s delicious Eurasian cuisine. A culinary master who takes his inspiration from what is seasonal and local, we can experience a kaleidoscope of flavours. There may be Laksa Bouillabaisse, inspired by the traditional aromatic soup of the Peranakan cuisine. Or a ‘nine peppers jus’ 16-hour-braised beef cheek. Or sweet Jungle Spices Cacao Ganache. Whatever is on the menu, we know it will be superb, beautifully served by skilled stewards. Service on this train is unmatched—and dinner is a leisured delight—followed, at the time of our choosing, by a nightcap or two, before retiring to our cabin to be rocked to sleep by the train—the first of three magical nights on one of the world’s most luxurious trains for an exotic journey of our imaginings.

The E&O journey, Day One: Singapore-Kuala Lumpur

Check-in for the train at the Fullerton Hotel, then transfer to Woodlands Station, Singapore, to board the Eastern & Oriental Express. Settle into a luxurious cabin and watch as the train travels through lush, green landscapes, setting the scene for our immersion into wild Malaysia. Explore the train: visit the Observation Car, the Piano Bar, the Dior Spa. After tiffin, relax, soaking up the vistas from your cabin. Dinner, live entertainment, and our first night being rocked to sleep by the train, await.

The E&O journey, Day Two: Kuala Lumpur-Langkawi

We wake to the scenes of Southeast Asia. What a magical awakening! It is February, and warm! Breakfast is served by liveried staff in our cabin and we enjoy fresh delights while soaking up the vistas as the train glides past the rice paddies and timeless rural villages of western Malaysia. Ahead of us, the jungle, heavy and damp. From the Observation Car, glimpses of country life are precious snapshots: rice paddies dotted with toiling farmers, ploughs drawn by water buffalo, children waving as the train passes by. Inside our time machine on wheels is an indulgent world of opulence, its elegant apartments evocative of another era. And another exquisite Eurasian meal awaits—it’s time for lunch, and after this, a choice of experiences.

Take a speedboat cruise to one of Langkawi’s most beautiful beaches. Relax in idyllic seclusion, swim in the warm, clear sea—or unwind with yoga, a sound bath and a massage. Enjoy tropical fruit and iced drinks. Then take a boat through the narrow channels of Kilim Geoforest Park, where mangrove forests meet coastal karst in an otherworldly natural landscape. Or opt for an adventurous discovery of Perlis Geopark, Malaysia’s 10th National Geopark. Take a bike, ride through breathtaking landscapes teeming with primates and birds, before entering an old tin mine with a fascinating history. Or focus on the rich art and culture of Perlis: make batik, view antiques. At the end of the day, we return to our luxurious train. Dinner is a gourmet delight, served with the sommelier’s choice of wines. Afterwards, our pianist awaits in the Piano Bar Car. The soft dark night of the tropics is bliss. Tonight, the train stables in Butterworth.

The E&O journey, Day Three: West-Coast Line—Butterworth

Another dawn chorus—and breakfast, before alighting for the crossing to Penang Island, known as the ‘Pearl of the Orient’. The island recognises and shows off its heritage in a more authentic way than does Singapore. In the main city of George Town—named after King George III—a ride on a man-pedalled trishaw is a classic way to enjoy some of the best-preserved English colonial architecture in Southeast Asia. Colonial-era shops, temples and clan houses make Penang’s Chinatown authentic and fascinating. Art lovers can explore George Town Old Quarter on the back of a Vespa with a guide. Food lovers can explore the market’s vast range of spices, then ride up Penang Hill for breathtaking views and a cooking lesson in the magnificent Art Deco-influenced Eythrope Bungalow.

We rejoin the train at Butterworth for lunch and a leisurely afternoon on board. Now could be the time to indulge in an Asian-inspired ritual in the opulent Dior Spa—rejuvenating massages and facials surrounded by handcrafted tropical woods and Dior’s iconic Toile de Jouy. Later, continue relaxing on the train or take the chance to stroll through the Malaysian city of Ipoh, gateway to the Cameron Highlands. The former tin capital boasts a wealth of splendid architecture built on the proceeds of its iron ore mining industry. Back on board, a final celebratory evening beckons with irresistible cuisine, entertainment and company. Shortly after dinner, the bright lights of Kuala Lumpur can be seen from our windows as the train glides by, travelling through the night.

The E&O journey, Day Four: Johor-Singapore

We wake to another pearly dawn—and this time breakfast is served in the restaurant car as we travel through Johor, the southernmost state of Malaysia, known for its beaches and rainforest. But this is the final leg of our train journey, and soon the train crosses the strait to Singapore, where we disembark and transfer back to the Fullerton Hotel. Two more luxurious, thrilling nights in Singapore await us, so there is still time to enjoy more pleasures on this spectacular trip. But the Eastern & Oriental Express will have created unique memories which linger for ever.
