Charingworth Manor, delightful Tudor-Jacobean hotel in the heart of the Cotswolds

Charingworth Manor is a delightful Cotswolds manor house hotel: a honey-coloured stone Tudor-Jacobean mansion with slate roofs, open fireplaces, 14th-century oak beams and rooms with views across its own gardens and 50-acre estate. It is a lovely place where you can enjoy peace and fresh air while exploring one of England’s loveliest regions.

This lovely country-house hotel is a firm favourite with our Members, giving you an exclusive special rate starting at £79.50 per person per night including full English breakfast and dinner—a seriously good deal off the usual rates at this popular Cotswolds manor-house hotel. For a breath of fresh air (or some serious sport), it cannot be beaten.

It is perfect for racing at Cheltenham, hunting in the Cotswolds, shooting, walking, riding, tennis, garden and stately home viewing, opera going (Longborough is in easy each) or simply touring the Cotswolds, a pleasure enhanced in winter by the thought of relaxing in comfortable sofas in front of roaring log fires for afternoon teas with toasted muffins and scones, or warming glasses of sherry and whisky before Sunday lunch. Indeed, picturesque villages and market towns are found at every turn—Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Burford, Broadway and Chipping Campden, described by the distinguished historian G M Trevelyan as having ‘the most beautiful high street in the whole of England’. Within easy reach are the larger towns: Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford. Banbury and Cheltenham. Or you can simply spend time in splendour in the manor house itself, soaking up the atmosphere, the food and wine, and all the other good things on offer.

Charingworth Manor is a peach of an hotel, which our Members love: after all, T S Eliot liked it so much he wrote an ode to it. And despite the manor house’s historic details, it is not totally rooted in the past. The addition of a delightful leisure spa with heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room and solarium, a well-equipped gymnasium and a tennis court with one of the finest views in the Cotswolds, has greatly enhanced this excellent period property. The hotel is highly regarded—it has four AA stars and Trip Advisor Certificates of Excellence—and as to the food, guests enjoy plentiful breakfasts and mouth-watering evening meals in the John Greville Restaurant.

The restaurant has been awarded an AA Rosette for the quality of its cuisine and service. A sample dinner menu might include such treats as starters of Tian of Brixham Crab with Tomato jelly and balsamic reduction, or poached ballotine of local game, pickled porcini mushrooms and coriander seedlings, or Ford Farm baby Cheddar soufflé with Tuscan vegetable salsa. Mains might well include roast crown of local partridge, braised red cabbage and pan-fried foie gras, or slow-cooked medallions of beef with creamed potato, baby onions, lardons and confit apricot with Cabernet Sauvignon sauce, or seared fillet of sea bass and celeriac mash, truffled baby leeks with Madeira sauce. For puddings, there may well be hot pear soufflé with chocolate sauce and Cinnamon ice cream or glazed pistachio crème brulée Madagascan vanilla ice cream and sable biscuit, vanilla panacotta with poached fruit puree—and of course traditional Christmas pudding and brandy sauce at the right time of year.

Our Members’ rate starts from £79.50 per person per night (two sharing a Classic double room), including full English breakfast and dinner, Monday to Thursday, and you can upgrade your room for a small extra charge depending on availability and room options.
