This fine vintage port was awarded the supreme prize, the Vintage Port Trophy at the 2021 International Wine Challenge. It is an excellent port, described by Luis Sottomayor—who himself was crowned Fortified Winemaker of the Year in 2022—as ‘one of the best, if not the best, vintage years I have witnessed’. This is a sumptuous vintage port, drinking beautifully now but also one to lay down for up to 40 years—perfect to give to your favourite port drinker. And through CountryClubuk you receive the best price!

A blend of Touring Franca, Touring Nacional, Sousao and Tinto Can from the best plots on the Quinta so Seixo and Quinto do Vaunt estates and foot trodden, the vintage 2018 bears the Sandeman hallmarks of powerful structure and incredible depth of flavour. Since the Guedes family bought Sandeman from Seagram in 2002, the major investment in the vineyards and the winemaking have seen them rise to the top of the tree in the Port trade. Luis Sottomayor’s recognition as Fortified Winemaker of the Year at the 2022 International Wine Challenge is testament to this.

The connoisseurs are loud in their praise of this 2018 vintage port, one naming it the ‘best I have tasted’:

Awarding 96/100, Wine Enthusiast’s Roger Voss notes, ‘This ripe Port boasts stewed plums and dense tannins, making it opulent, rich and set for long-term ageing. Spice and a hint of cardamom give further complexity. Of course, this fine wine will age. Wait to drink until 2029.’

Also awarding 96/100, Tom Cannavan notes, ‘A lovely sense of kirsch-like ripeness and purity here, maybe even Black Forest gateau, with its density of cherry and depth of chocolate. There’s a lovely floral lift too, edged with violet and ashy aromatics. In the mouth it is, in some ways, the marriage of the Offley and Ferreira, with the sweet, opulent fruit and creamy openess of the Offley, but the muscle and brooding depth, and structural elements, of the Ferreira. A sumptuous 2018 this, drinking surprisingly well now but undoubtedly built for the long haul. It is the best Sandeman I have every tasted.’

Single bottle in wooden presentation case. RRP £130. CCUK £89 including free UK mainland delivery.
