It is craftsman-made by Italian artisans for the specialists Hillwood of London, using the finest elm burl, inlaid with intricate veneers and beautifully polished. Open the lid to hear the sweet strains of Beethoven’s ‘Für Elise’ playing melodiously—it’s a treasure which soothes the soul.

Everything about this box is beautiful, and elegant, from the figuring of the elm burl—that part of the wood with the most beautiful pattern-play—to the lilting notes from the hand-wound mechanical 18-note musical movement. And that music is so romantic: it is thought to have been written for Therese, whom Beethoven wanted to marry in 1810—but his handwriting was misspelt in transcription, making it for ever known as ‘Für Elise’.

Soft simulated suede lines the interior to protect the treasured jewellery and keepsakes which will be stored within. It has brass plated fittings and a key lock to keep it closed and secure. Size 27x16x7cm.
