Perfect Beaches & Turquoise Waters

The privately-owned island of Mustique is almost too good to be true. Fringed by perfect beaches and sparkling turquoise waters, crowned by lush green hills and speckled with rustic hamlets and luxurious villas, this exquisite tropical island in the Grenadines is a tiny fairytale isle about the size of Hyde Park. It is little wonder that the Royal Family (most notably HRH Princess Margaret and, most recently, HRH Prince William and his bride) and others of star status have built homes there, and that these homeowners have kept the island to themselves for several decades. Nevertheless, a single famous hotel stands in peace and privacy on the island—the only full-service resort on Mustique—and a stay here is as coveted as a private invitation. It is called Cotton House, and its fame is world-wide.

rooms

Cotton House still hosts the island’s weekly cocktail party for villa-owning residents as well as its own guests. And our Members are invited to visit Mustique, to stay in Cotton House, and to enjoy the 45-minute flight to and from Barbados with the compliments of the House.

Cotton House is in the world’s top league of hotels. Exclusive by its very nature, elegant and comfortable by design, and never, ever ostentatious, Cotton House is the oldest structure on Mustique, an 18th-century plantation house once used to store cotton, sugar and rum. It stands in 13 acres, the Caribbean Sea to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and quietly forms the hub of the island’s gentle activity. The international cadre of villa owners drop by for afternoon tea in the Great Room, cocktails in the bar, or coffee on their way to picnic at the impossibly beautiful Macaroni Beach.

restaurant

Veranda Restaurant

The long-established Veranda restaurant, wrapped around the Great Room, is the perfect setting for relaxed hospitality where guests can enjoy a leisurely breakfast, and an open bar for drinks and refreshments throughout the day.

The evening sees a transformation into a fabulous setting with small intimate tables or settings for larger private parties, such as the popular “Chef’s Top Table”. Offering an extensive and sophisticated a la carte menu, ingredients are sourced locally ensuring fabulous fresh fish and seafood.

Whilst our extensive wine list, which won an Award of Excellence from the Wine Spectator in 2013, will keep even the most enthusiastic oenologist happy.

With its neutral, understated décor in all 17 rooms and suites, Cotton House will envelop you in an aura of old-world sophistication, charm, peace, and Caribbean sunshine cooled by gentle breezes. You will have butler service, professional and charming, just as if you were a guest in a private, fully-staffed residence—with the added elements of your own outdoor pool and a full-service spa.

As to food, the Cotton House fare is delicious. There are two restaurants, The Veranda, which serves Caribbean delicacies from a simple yet internationally distinguished menu, and the al fresco Beach Café on the water’s edge. Afternoon teas and cocktails in the Great Room and the Beach Bar are leisurely affairs, created by masters of their respective arts—as you might expect with such a very British clientele: they know a good afternoon tea and a pre-lunch cocktail when they see it!

For sport on Mustique there is tennis, riding, hiking, sailing, diving and snorkelling, and though golf carts—known on the island as mule-carts—provide the local transport, there is no golf course. More practically, neither are there visible power or telephone lines, or water pipes—they are all underground. Nor are there any tall buildings—all structures are limited to the tree line and below. The entire island displays all the creativity and comforts of a wealthy yet discerning aristocrat’s home estate. And all this happened through the foresight of one such Scottish aristocrat, Colin Tennant, later Lord Glenconner, a close friend of HM The Queen’s late sister, HRH Princess Margaret.

He bought the island in the late 1950s, and in 1960 gave the Princess a 10-acre plot of land as a wedding gift, on which eventually she built her own villa, Les Jolies Eaux. The beautiful Princess’s presence—and visits by The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh—set the style for the island’s new residents, while giving the Princess the one home in the world where she could be herself with her friends: Mustique became her favourite place on earth.

In 1968 Lord Glenconner’s Mustique Company entered into an agreement with St Vincent to preserve the island’s character and ecology by, among other rules, limiting development to 114 houses. From these far-sighted beginnings Mustique became a protected private haven that could never be spoiled by further development, and so it remains. The real appeal of Mustique goes beyond its celebrity pedigree to this, the timeless, private-island serenity in everything one sees.

How to get there

Mustique is at the northern tip of the Grenadines. It is part of the Lesser Antilles and therefore part of the Windward Islands of the Caribbean. Mustique is reached by air from the UK, generally via Barbados but also via St Vincent, Canouan, Grenada, Martinique, St Lucia, Puerto Rico and Trinidad.

International Hotel: Our Members are invited to stay at Cotton House whenever rooms are available.

4.7. When ordering a product or service, or accessing a benefit, you may be required to provide your Payment Card details. If you request and authorise CountryClubuk to use your Payment Card in order to pay a Supplier for products or services, you acknowledge and agree that CountryClubuk shall have no liability in respect of or be responsible in any way whatsoever in respect of the use of your Payment Card provided that CountryClubuk believes it is acting in accordance with the instructions issued by you in relation thereto.

Neither CountryClubuk nor its Suppliers will accept any responsibility for price increases which may occur between your order for tickets and your full payment. If it happens that, during the time between your payment of a deposit and your full payment, the price of tickets either increases or reduces, you will be offered the opportunity to buy the tickets at the up-to-date price or you can elect to receive a refund of your deposit within 30 days, minus a handling charge. If during the time between your payment of a deposit and your full payment, the tickets are no longer available (eg for a sold-out show or event), you will receive a refund of your deposit within 30 days, minus a handling charge. Please note that neither CountryClubuk nor its ticket agent Partners can be held liable in any way if tickets for which you have not paid in full are subsequently no longer available or have increased in price.

On certain occasions, our representatives may deliver your tickets to the box office on the night of the show or event at no additional cost.

7.7. CountryClubuk or its ticket agent partners reserve the right to upgrade tickets at no additional cost, to downgrade tickets (partial refund) or to cancel the order with a full refund.

8.2. CountryClubuk makes every effort to ensure that its articles are accurate and cannot be held responsible or liable for inaccurate or misleading product descriptions. Products may differ slightly from the images shown, or in the case of events, the full itinerary may not be exactly as stated in advance, although every effort is made to ensure that all product and other descriptions are as accurate as possible.

8.3. CountryClubuk may from time to time offer special CountryClubuk products or services for sale through the Site, the weekly eNewsletter or the Club Magazine. These products will be clearly specified as being supplied by CountryClubuk in their description.

Goods remain the property of either the Supplier or CountryClubuk until they have been paid for in full. If during the interim period the price of the goods has increased, you can elect either to pay the additional cost in full and receive the goods, or to be refunded whatever monies have been paid, minus handling charge.
