HRH the Duke of Edinburgh is an honorary member of The Norfolk Club in Norwich, where CountryClubuk Members enjoy a reciprocal membership arrangement. The Norfolk Club is a private members’ club dating back to 1770. It stands in a prime position in an 18th century townhouse in the heart of the city, between Norwich Castle and Norwich Cathedral, and among its illustrious past presidents were Lord Walsingham, one of England’s finest game shots, and Viscount Coke, inventor of the bowler hat.
As a CountryClubuk Member, you are invited to visit this traditional Norwich club, and use its facilities for business or pleasure, including overnight stays. The club has six comfortable bedrooms, making it an enjoyable place to stay when visiting this fascinating city. With a relaxed atmosphere and courteous service, it is an oasis of measured calm which we believe you will enjoy.
Norwich itself is an English jewel, a cultural city with a tremendous heritage, the most complete mediaeval city in Britain. The cathedral is one of Europe’s finest Romanesque churches, and beyond its architectural magnificence it offers a full diary of services and choral and organ recitals. The city is not large—the perfect size to explore on foot—and it takes only a short drive to arrive in the Norfolk countryside, which is like stepping back in time.
The rustic Norwich landscapes are dotted with flint churches, historic houses, market towns and of course the Norfolk Broads—mile upon mile of waterways and flatlands teeming with boats and wildlife. Our Members can make The Norfolk Club their base for an extremely enjoyable trip. Stay for a night or more, enjoy English breakfast to start your day’s exploration, return for luncheon or afternoon tea, or at any time for a drink in the bar or lounge, with a sandwich made to your personal order. The club has a library, meeting room, television room, billiards room and, for a small extra charge, a squash court.
Rooms are en-suite, and rates include English breakfast and VAT. As an overnight guest, parking is included in the room price; daytime parking can be arranged with the club stewards.
