Domaine Merlin Les Grands Ducs 2023 is a standout, terroir-driven Rhône white wine—elegant, layered, and precise. It has 92-point potential, offering Condrieu-like richness at a fraction of the price.

This Saint-Joseph Blanc seduces from the first pour—lush apricot and honeysuckle bloom in the glass, laced with almond, citrus zest and green apple, the palate zesty yet rich, pear and melon unfolding with beeswax subtlety and hazelnut cream, underscored by delicate minerality and a lingering, herbal finish. Freshness, texture, intrigue: this is Rhône white at its most beguiling.

Its story starts in Saint-Joseph’s granite-schist amphitheatre, where François Merlin—first-generation visionary, one of the Rhône’s most exciting names—farms organically across 10 hectares, drawing this signature cuvée from south-east-facing slopes.

A 70% Roussanne, 30% Marsanne blend from 40-year vines, hand-harvested, fermented in oak barrels, lees-aged for depth without weight—bottling 8,000 gems of aromatic allure. Decanter’s Matt Walls lauds the ‘compelling complexity’ of these wines; insiders echo its ‘vibrant, structured’ poise. A Condrieu whisper at Hermitage ease.

Drink 2025–2030. Pair with Brie, lobster, creamy mushroom pasta, roast chicken with tarragon, pan-seared scallops in beurre blanc, or goat’s cheese and walnuts.
