South-east of Bordeaux, just beyond the Graves appellation on the left bank of the Garonne, lies the historic Château des Antonins. This enchanting 13th-century estate was home to the Antonins monks for over five centuries; their medieval chapel, monastery buildings, toll bridge and windmills still stand among the vines today. Now in the caring hands of the de Roquefeuil family—Geoffroy, Martine and their son Antoine (head winemaker since 2016)—the estate is farmed sustainably and produces wines of genuine finesse and character.
The outstanding 2020 vintage on the Right Bank delivered ripe yet beautifully restrained fruit, perfect balance and seamless oak integration. This is plush, Merlot-dominant claret at its most sophisticated: layers of blackcurrant, cassis and violet weave through notes of cedar and graphite, framed by velvety tannins and a juicy, mineral-laced core. The finish is long, silky and effortlessly refined.
James Suckling scored it 89 points and called it “outstanding claret value”.
The Club Tasting Panel agrees: this is irresistible everyday Bordeaux that drinks beautifully now and will delight for several more years.
