Roux at The Landau: Delicious cuisine and impeccable service in a top-class, relaxed atmosphere: CountryClubuk Members enjoy 15% off the total bill in the restaurant and Artesian Bar

Renowned for modern French cuisine and impeccable service, to lunch or dine at Roux at The Landau is a pleasure not to be missed. This is the fine dining restaurant of Langham London—established in 1865 as the first ‘Grand Hotel’ in Europe—where Roux père et fils reign over the elegant culinary establishment designed by David Collins. This is a restaurant to savour—and both the set menu and the tasting menu offer excellent value made even better as Members save 15% on the total bill at lunch or dinner—which also applies to the Artesian Bar.

The restaurant has its own private entrance from Portland Place; arriving from here, or from the hotel itself, is impressive: it ends in a ‘fine wine corridor’. One emerges from the dimly-lit, bottle-lined walls into a striking, airy, light-filled dining room, oval shaped, with tall windows overlooking All Souls Church, light wood panelling and a vaulted ceiling. It is all very comfortable and expansive, the distribution of tables making almost every one desirable—but the highlights in this respect are two alcoves set at either side of the restaurant, which are almost diminutive private dining rooms, with small horseshoe tables and banquettes encased by more wood stretching up towards Medieval-style chandeliers. They rank among the best tables in London.

As to the cuisine, this is excellent; it happens under the watchful eye of Roux protégé Chris King as Chef de Cuisine. His a la carte and tasting menus combine classic French with twists of modernity—typical Roux cooking. Added to which, the front-of-house team is gracefully led by the charming Franco Becci, famous here and from his former days at The Savoy Grill. As might be expected, the menu is classical, but with lighter, more modern touches in places. The wine list is large, and excellent, focusing on the French and with well-chosen New and Old World selections, and there is a wide choice of wines by the glass.
