Can any of us resist this fabulous new fine art silk stole? This is a sumptuous detail of Vincent Van Gogh’s summery ‘View of Arles With Irises’, now hanging in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
Van Gogh was captivated by the colours of the landscape around the French town of Arles. He particularly loved the contrast between the yellow and purple flowers in the fields, writing to his brother Theo about this painting in 1888: ‘A meadow full of very yellow buttercups, a ditch with iris plants with green leaves, with purple flowers, the town in the background, some grey willow trees—a strip of blue sky. If they don’t mow the meadow I’d like to do this study again, because the subject matter was really beautiful and I had trouble finding the composition. A little town surrounded by countryside entirely covered in yellow and purple flowers. That would really be a Japanese dream, you know.’
It is thrilling to have this wonderful Van Gogh scene captured here on a pure silk scarf. The scene epitomise the work of this great Post-Impressionist and will surely add romance and artistic elegance, as well as pure pleasure, to a look, day or night. With its hand-rolled edges, it drapes beautifully over bare shoulders to enhance an evening look—or loosely around the neck for sophisticated artistic expression. We love them both!
