Peacock feathers in gold from the most spectacular, and arguably the most famous, gold snuffbox of the 18th century: now in the Wallace Collection in London: inspiring this pure silk tie by Fox & Chave

Original price was: £40.00.Current price is: £23.00.

This elegant pure silk tie depicting peacock feathers is inspired by a superb example of a goldsmith’s detailed work from one of the most striking snuff boxes in the Wallace Collection in London.

The box, created in 1744, was first owned by the Duc d’Aumont, First Gentleman of the Bedchamber to King Louis XV and well known as a connoisseur of art.

The radiating peacock feathers are seen in full glory on the snuffbox, inspiring the silk designers at Fox & Chave to create their beautiful pattern for the tie in subtle shades of pale gold picked out with blue-grey peacock ‘eyes’.

The enameller of the superb and delicate peacock feathers is sadly unknown. It is, however, a tour de force of the enameller’s art, which has contributed to the creation of one of the most spectacular, and arguably the most famous, gold box of the 18th century.
