Join us at the House of Lords for the CountryClubuk Champagne Charity Reception in aid of the Atlantic Salmon Trust’s mission to restore wild Atlantic Salmon, now classified as an endangered species in the UK: the date is Tuesday, June 4, 2024

You are invited to attend the forthcoming CountryClubuk Champagne Charity Reception, to be held in the Cholmondeley Room and The Terrace at the House of Lords in London on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. To enjoy a summer’s evening at the House of Lords and on its terrace by the River Thames will be a delightful and memorable event—as well as having an important underlying purpose.
The charity to benefit this year is the Atlantic Salmon Trust, which is at the forefront of scientific work and action on the ground to restore wild Atlantic salmon and their environment. The battle to save wild Atlantic salmon is ongoing, yet now there is new urgency due to the perilous state of the species. The species is now in crisis and the population in Great Britain has recently been reclassified as endangered.

Specifically, we aim to support the Trust’s ongoing work to build a comprehensive evidence-based understanding of the problems affecting wild Atlantic salmon on their journey from the river headwaters in the UK to the ocean. For every 100 wild salmon which leave British rivers for the sea, fewer than five now return, a decline of 75 per cent in 25 years.

As well as carrying out large-scale, innovative research projects, the Trust is also now at the forefront of delivering catchment-scale habitat restoration partnerships in the UK, safeguarding wild salmon from the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss. This is not about a single species alone however: wild Atlantic salmon are an indicator species signalling a decline in the health of the wider environment which the Trust aims to halt and reverse.

We much hope our Members will both support this important environmental initiative and enjoy this high-profile occasion at the House of Lords.

The Rt Hon the Lord Mancroft and CountryClubuk will host the Reception in the Cholmondeley Room and on The Terrace at the House of Lords, overlooking the River Thames. The Cholmondeley Room is rich with original Charles Barry and Augustus Pugin designs, the architects of much of the Palace of Westminster still standing today. Throughout the Cholmondeley Room we can see royal coats of arms adorned on the walls, from William the Conqueror to Queen Victoria.

At the Reception, Champagne will be served on arrival, followed by hot and cold canapés served with House of Lords wines and soft drinks. There will be an opportunity to enjoy a private tour of the House of Lords, as well as to meet the dignitaries, scientists and fellow Club members. Numbers are of course strictly limited due to the size of the venue, but the aim is to have a capacity crowd and Members and Trust supporters are welcome to invite their own personal guests to attend and add their support. Tickets are £139 per head and the proceeds will go to the charity.

The date is Tuesday, June 4, 2024. The timing is 6.30pm (arrival at 6.15pm) to 8.30pm. The dress code is smart (lounge suits for the men and equivalent attire for the ladies).
A specimen of the personalised invitation which you will receive when you have booked your tickets appears above (and which you and your guests will bring to the House of Lords as part of the security protocol on arrival).
