Edwardian country-house hotel: Grovefield, an oasis for visits to Burnham, Windsor, Ascot, the Chiltern Hills and more

An Edwardian country house set in private, secluded grounds near Burnham in the Buckinghamshire countryside, and not far from Taplow, Maidenhead and Windsor, Grovefield House hotel is the former home of the London’s famous brewing family, the Fullers. Grovefield makes an ideal location for visiting the interesting and varied local area—the famous Burnham Beeches are just a few minutes’ drive away, as are the market towns of Taplow and Maidenhead, and Royal Windsor, Eton and Ascot are a 20-minute drive. From here it’s easy to enjoy a holiday taking in a visit to Windsor Castle, Windsor Great Park, Virginia Water and the Savill Gardens, a Thames river trip and gentle sightseeing and shopping excursions along the Thames from Windsor to Taplow, Maidenhead and Henley, or to the nearby Chiltern Hills, classified as an Area of Outstanding Beauty. This is a super four-star hotel which gives endless options for enjoyment. At just 30 minutes from Heathrow, it is also a good option for a non-airport stay prior to a flight from Heathrow.

 

Once the country retreat of John Fuller, this turn-of-the-last-century house has recently undergone a massive £2 million refurbishment. It now offers a combination of country-house tradition and modern, bright and airy accommodation, with 40 individually-decorated bedrooms. The guest bedrooms are often generous in size, from classic to deluxe and suites (including four dog-friendly rooms). All are decorated to a high standard, and many have long views over the gardens and grounds. They are well equipped and include tea- and coffee-making facilities, flat-screen TV with digital channels, free wifi, desk, easy chairs and coffee tables. Bathrooms are en-suite, with showers, bathtubs and toiletries.

The hotel’s Hamiltons Restaurant offers English classics and modern European cuisine, the Chef favouring local, seasonal produce. In addition there is an excellent room service menu. An inviting Bar offers lovely views over the gardens.

Grovefield House is 10 minutes from the M4, 15 minutes from the M40, and 30 minutes from Heathrow Airport and the M25. Central London is 45 minutes away. Burnham Station is a 2-mile drive. It has free parking for 100 cars as well as a helicopter landing pad.
