We at CountryClubuk exist to enable Members to take advantage of many things, including those which such well-run mini-kingdoms as Chewton Glen have to offer, and we are thrilled with our arrangement with what is rightly considered England’s loveliest country-house hotel. Chewton Glen sits serenely on the South Coast of England, surrounded by immaculate gardens and barbered lawns on the fringe of the New Forest, close enough to walk to the beach, and in easy reach of the cream of chalkstream trout streams—the rivers Test and Itchen.
Volumes have been written about Chewton Glen, a neo-Georgian country manor-house hotel distinguished by an air of well-being and it has been named the Best Hotel in England many times, most recently last month. Through its 50 years it has reinvented itself many times and maintained the highest standards of service and quality. Nothing ruffles the polished feathers of the extremely congenial staff at this grand, green-shuttered, ivy-clad home where croquet on the lawn is one of the many activities, including indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, a nine-hole golf course, shooting and archery range—and of course flyfishing for trout on the local chalkstreams, which are of course the world’s finest.
Chewton Glen has seamlessly moved with the times, expanding over the years to become a 70-room bastion of luxury with gorgeous bedrooms and suites with every facility. As for the Treehouse Suites, they seem to float above their private, secluded valley, creating a deep sense of peace. To luxuriate deeply in all this tranquility, guests need never leave the 130 acres of private grounds, though the hotel’s location is ideal for visits to Stonehenge, Salisbury and Winchester, each no more than an hour’s drive. Most guests stay close to home, to be pampered at the full-service spa with its crystal steam room, jet pools and holistic therapies from the likes of Ila and Ren, and to dine in the acclaimed Dining Room on the memorable dishes of acclaimed chef Luke Matthews—the food is phenomenal, think Devonshire crab, Quantock duck and dry-aged sirloin beef among the many local ingredients, with herbs, vegetables and even honey from the Chewton Glen kitchen garden. In between there are hours spent lingering by the pool, or in one of the peaceful sitting rooms, or listening to the cocktail hour’s pianist—or perhaps attending the new James Martin & Friends cookery school.
Chewton Glen’s relative proximity to London means it is an easy drive to reach this oasis of elegance with its magical bucolic atmosphere, and these together with its gorgeous surroundings make you feel the outside world does not exist at all. Which is why we are so pleased to have sensationally good new rates for our Members!
Our ongoing Club rates give you 15% off the best price others pay, with complimentary English breakfast, a bottle of Champagne and complimentary room upgrade if available when you arrive. Rates start at £230.20 per night for two sharing, including the treats outlined above.
