This wine is in a different league to everyday Beaujolais. Singled out by the connoisseurs at Decanter as one of their recommended ‘Summer Red Wines to Drink Chilled’, it is made by the Dupeuble family from their 42ha of 50- 100-year-old vines. It is also made in a natural way, with wild yeasts, no sulphur, no fining or filtering.
The result is a wine of succulent, fresh, vibrant red fruit with wonderful clarity and purity, and fine acidity. The flavours are cherry, blackcurrant and raspberry, with hints of cinnamon, lavender and rose. It is medium-bodied, smooth, with lingering length and complexity on the finish. Drinking beautifully now, it makes an excellent match for rich summer foods. Perfect with pork and ham, the Club Tasting Panel found it mouthwatering with Iberico Pluma pork (see the Club Larder), Mediterranean roast vegetables and herbs.
