You are invited to stay, and flyfish for salmon, in the splendour of the Amhuinnsuidhe Castle estate, on the Isle of Harris, for the prime week of July 7 to 14, 2023. Set in the magnificent mountains of the 55,000-acre North Harris estate in the Outer Hebrides, this is one of the most beautiful, unspoilt landscapes—and most famous salmon and sea trout fisheries—in the world, as well as being a luxurious castle residence in which to stay. This is a wonderful, unmissable trip for flyfishers and non-fishers alike, and it will be quickly snapped up by our Members!
THE CREAM OF SPORT: LOCH FISHING FOR WILD ATLANTIC SALMON ON AMHUINNSUIDHE ESTATE.
Amhuinnsuidhe Castle is a splendid baronial home, built in 1865 for the 7th Earl of Dunmore, a member of Disraeli’s government and a high-level diplomat. Among his successors were Sir Samuel Scott and his wife Lady Sophie, daughter of the Earl Cadogan, a society beauty, socialite and sportswoman whose sporting house parties were legendary—a large steamer was commissioned to bring guests and supplies to the island for the season.
A SPORTING PARADISE AWAITS, WITH GHILLIES AT YOUR SERVICE.
The estate is in every way a sporting paradise to this day, and guests can make the most of this majestic scene: red deer add to the highlights, as does bird watching (golden eagles nest here), and there are dramatic landscapes, magnificent walks, stunningly beautiful beaches (Luskentyre is considered the finest in Scotland) and picturesque villages, historic churches and castles, archaeological sites, craft shops, galleries and local industries to explore—including Harris tweed and, on Lewis, linked to Harris by land, the Abhainn Dearg Single Malt Whisky Distillery.
Bring your golf clubs as well as your rods and dogs—the nine-hole golf course at Scarista, about 35 minutes’ drive from Amhuinnsuidhe Castle, was named by Nick Faldo ‘one of the most beautiful places in the world to play golf’.
