This top-scoring Decanter World Wine Awards Gold Medal winning Albarino from Bodega Garzon in Uruguay is superb, elegant—a  wine that is a real cut above and which has wowed the critics for good reason.

It has great complexity, layers of beautiful fruit and textural quality and richness. The Decanter World Wine Award judges, awarding a Gold Medal and 95/100 points, note, ‘Expressive on the nose, showing aromas of perfumed limes and lemons, with notes of peaches, apple skin and ripe pineapple. Saline palate, textural, with a mineral finish.’

Pale yellow in colour, fresh and vibrant on the nose, with the aroma of tropical fruits and subtle citrus and floral notes. In the mouth, the body is round and fresh with a saline and mineral combination that provide a marked notion of terroir accompanied by vibrant acidity and a fresh finish.

Tim Atkin, awarding 95/100 points, notes, ‘

The influential critic Patricio Tapia, awarding 94/100, notes, ‘Generous floral notes, herbs, and ripe white fruits that unfurl on the palate, filling it with flavour, fresh and sharp acidity, the creamy texture of Atlantic albariño.’

The secret to this delicious wine lies in its southern orientation on the granitic slopes of Maldonado, assuring shelter from intense sunlight plus direct exposure to the ocean breeze. This heightens the minerality of the varietal, which is 100% Albarino. This Single Vineyard faces the ocean, about 18 kilometres away.
