Produced on the limestone and clay soils of Lussac Saint-Émilion under the guidance of Hubert de Boüard, co-owner of the celebrated Château Angélus, this beautifully mature claret comes from one of Bordeaux’s finest recent vintages.
Now approaching ten years from harvest, the wine has developed exactly the balance that makes mature Right Bank Bordeaux such a pleasure to drink. Rich Merlot fruit remains beautifully expressive, while time in bottle has softened the tannins and added layers of cedar, tobacco, dark plum, blackberry and gentle spice. The result is a harmonious, elegant Bordeaux that combines generosity with freshness and classic structure.
The 2016 vintage is widely regarded as one of Bordeaux’s finest of the last two decades, producing wines of exceptional concentration, balance and ageing potential. Château Lyonnat has benefited enormously from those conditions and is now entering a particularly rewarding stage of its evolution.
The CountryClubuk Wine Tasting Panel are delighted to recommend Château Lyonnat 2016. What impressed us most is its effortless drinkability. This is not a Bordeaux to hide away for another decade—it is a mature claret ready to be enjoyed with confidence today, while retaining sufficient freshness and structure to continue developing over the next few years.
Awarded 91 points by Wine Enthusiast and 90 points by James Suckling, Château Lyonnat 2016 demonstrates just how satisfying mature Bordeaux can be when sourced from an outstanding vintage and carefully cellared.
Whether served with a traditional Sunday roast, slow-cooked lamb, roast beef or a well-aged hard cheese, this is a wonderfully reassuring bottle that captures everything many wine lovers admire about classic Right Bank Bordeaux.
Enjoy now and cellar until around 2030.
