Each beautiful South Sea pearl is grown individually in the large Pinctada maxima pearl oyster of the tropical oceans, which can reach 1ft in diameter. it produces the largest of pearls, up to 18mm, often baroque in shape, with thick nacre and a satin-like lustre. These unmistakable characteristics of South Sea pearls are easily seen in the gorgeous 12-14mm pearls in these lovely earrings.
As a contrast to the creamy South Sea pearl our jeweller has chosen the striking Tahitian black pearl from the oceans of French Polynesia. This is another of the world’s most glamorous natural gems, and these are not only lustrous but in the glistening shades of the ocean depths, which beautifully enhance the creamy lustre of the South Sea pearls.
Each pearl in these earrings is entirely individual and natural—do not expect a perfect smooth, round pearl in this case, for the baroque pear shapes and birthmarks of these large South Sea pearls are integral to the beauty of the pearls themselves, and to the finished piece of jewellery. When you wear these lovely earrings they cannot be mistaken for anything other than genuine natural South Sea and Tahitian pearls.
Due to the high cost of production, South Sea pearls are among the costliest, and as such few retailers sell them, so we are delighted to have these stunning earrings.
