This famous Cotswolds inn has evolved over centuries from hostelry to coaching inn to luxury hotel. Now, beneath the barrel-vaulted ceilings of the Great Hall, with its minstrels’ gallery, historical paintings and antler chandeliers, complete with an open fire and flagstone floor, breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in splendour. It’s a stunning feature room, once a ballroom, and this, the Lygon Bar and Grill, now offers a modern menu of simple English grills and country Italian dishes. Added to which, as a Club Member, whenever you lunch or dine, you and your guests each receive a complimentary glass of Champagne (usually costing £14 a glass).
The focus here is on local delicacies from the Cotswolds and Vale of Evesham—such as crispy Cotswolds lamb breast with black olives, capers and tomatoes; or Chadbury market vegetable soup; North Cotswolds Ale battered cod and chips; Waghorne’s 30 days dry aged beef fillet or rib steak; and Caldecott free-range chicken. Puddings major on the well-loved, seasonal British.
