The Franklin, a hidden gem of a five-star townhouse hotel in leafy Egerton Gardens, Knightsbridge, has been transformed by its Venetian owners and hotelier designer Anouska Hempel (of Blakes Hotel fame) into a no-expense-spared haven of beauty, style and luxury. It combines the elegance of an English townhouse with the decorative splendour of an Italian palazzo. The hotel is simply gorgeous—and Members who have tried it cannot wait to return!
Nothing in this beautiful hotel is run of the mill—you too will love it too! Design features include limestone and Carrara marble, Italian velvets and silks with a bucolic background of Egerton Gardens to complement those striking interiors. It is simply bliss to sit in the garden taking tea or an evening aperitif.
As in top-notch Italy, the food is sublime—a signature Italian restaurant is presided over by a former Italian Young Chef of the Year, Alfredo Russo. There is a Champagne bar, a library meeting room, and health facilities including hamman, steam spa and gym instead of the usual spa.
This is not a large hotel—it has only 35 rooms including 19 suites—but even the entry-level Superior bedrooms are airy and light, brimming with Anouska Hempel’s inimitable design and eclectic tastes. The centrepiece is a specially created Simmons double bed with Art Nouveau-inspired details. All rooms are luxurious, fitted with the best Frette linens and with pillow menus to guarantee a good night’s sleep, together with palatial marble en-suite bathrooms with fragrant Penhaligon’s bath products.

If you choose a room-only rate, breakfast is an extra £35 per person for Continental and there are plenty of à la carte options. You can put your £50 voucher towards this if you wish—but don’t forget to also sample the delicious cucina in the restaurant for lunch or dinner!
