The Dorchester London, best rates for this, one of the world’s most desirable 5-star hotels: one of Members’ favourites

The Dorchester needs no introduction. One of the most desirable places in the world to stay, it has stood, resplendent on its famous site on Park Lane, overlooking Hyde Park, since 1931, entertaining Royalty, premiers and presidents, heroes and film stars with its perfect combination of style and substance.

Spacious and elegant, each room features specially commissioned fabrics, antique furniture and exceedingly comfortable beds, whilst the white marble bathrooms boast the deepest baths in London; most also benefiting from natural daylight. All rooms and suites feature Bang & Olufsen LCD screens and Wi-fi internet connection. A team of E-butlers is on hand seven days a week to assist with technical needs.

The Dorchester opened its doors for the first time on April 18, 1931. A Gala Luncheon was held to mark the occasion with a guest list from the cream of society; the colossal Ballroom, with its mirrored walls set with sparkling studs, just as now, could accommodate a thousand in splendour. Princess Elizabeth’s engagement to Prince Philip was announced at the Dorchester and the Duke’s stag party was held there. Both Sir Winston Churchill and General Eisenhower lived at the hotel at times during the Second World War (Churchill had a wall built to block off his balcony from intruders). In every era, film stars queue up to become Dorchester regulars, from Laurence Olivier to Vivienne Leigh, femme fatales Brigitte Bardot, Marlene Dietrich and Elizabeth Taylor, and The Beatles.

There are 51 individually decorated suites including Art Deco Junior Suites and our renowned Dorchester Suites. Most Suites enjoy breathtaking views over Hyde Park. Known collectively as the ‘roof suites’ the Audley, Terrace and Harlequin have recently been refurbished by leading designer Alexandra Champalimaud. Evoking the spirit of 1930s Hollywood glamour, all three suites fresh, modern and luxurious interiors, outside terraces with unrivalled views over London, and a dedicated team of butlers to take care of your every wish.

In addition The Dorchester offers a selection of exquisite restaurants and bars.

The Dorchester Grill offers modern Anglo-French cuisine with the finest ingredients sourced from around the UK. Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester has quickly become on of London’s most exciting restaurants offering exquisite French cuisine in beautifully relaxed surroundings overlooking Hyde Park.

The Promenade, very much the heart of the hotel, offers breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and cocktails at The Promenade Bar. The Dorchester’s famous traditional afternoon tea has been voted the best in London for a record three years running by the British Tea Council.

China Tang at The Dorchester, with an atmosphere inspired by 1920s Shanghai, serves authentic Cantonese food and homemade dim sum. In addition classic cocktail menu is available at the China Tang Bar. Meanwhile, the Bar at The Dorchester offers a list of both classic cocktails and new, served in an opulent, glamorous interior that has become one of the places in London to see and be seen.`
