One of the most beautiful and unspoilt islands in the South China Sea, Pulau Redang is home to Taaras Beach & Spa Resort, set on perhaps the most spectacular bay in the region. Lapped by the crystal waters of the South China Sea, backed by hills and tropical trees, this sublime location on the long sandy beach is near the protected marine area known as Terengganu Marine Park, a sea turtle breeding ground and sanctuary. Redang’s white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, famous white coral reefs, virgin jungle and remote bays make it the perfect place for sun worshippers and sea lovers—and Taaras Beach is acknowledged as the best hotel on the island, a scenic, sun-soaked, peaceful hideaway overlooking the soft white sands and crystal blue waters of the bay. It is in prime position for swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving and sea turtle watching. The resort’s ethos is to provide a contemporary barefoot luxury experience with warm Asian hospitality.
The whole resort has been renovated and there are plenty of lovely Suites to choose, from Garden Deluxe to the Ocean Front Suites, right on the beach, and the five-bedroom Taaras Villa. For example, the 70 square metre Garden Suite is Malaysian in style with over-size bed, large en-suite bathroom with bath tub and separate rain or monsoon shower, separate living room and bedroom, balcony or terrace, ceiling fans and air-conditioning, flat screen TVs and free Wifi. There is plenty of space to relax in every one of these airy rooms and suites.
Four restaurants provide enough different cuisines to suit all tastes, from Malaysian and Japanese to pan-European, and there are nearby restaurants to add to the variety. The Taaras Spa is fully equipped, with revitalisation treatments menu and plenty of massage options. Sea sports facilities include snorkelling (day or night), parasailing, windsurfing, fishing, island hopping, banana boat, paddle boat, canoe/kayak, boat charters, boogie boards—but as this is a marine sanctuary area, no powered craft except fishing and dive boats—and for divers (and for learners-to-dive) there is five-star PADI instruction.
