Regent Porto Montenegro

Montenegro

Montenegro’s advantages surely start with the sea, and the climate. A small country, two-thirds the size of Wales with a population of around 660,000, it has a good slice of the beautiful Adriatic coastline and on a particularly lovely bay, overlooking the super-yacht marina of Porto Montenegro, Regent’s five-star hotel caters beautifully for those who want luxury, restaurants and designer shopping along with fine views of this stunningly scenic coastline.

It is warm, too—they have 270 days of sunshine per year—so when Britain is buttoned-up against the cold wind and rain, in Porto Montenegro they are enjoying al fresco dining or a private balcony looking out over the bay, the mountains—and the sleek hulls of the yachts.

Since gaining its independence in 2006, Montenegro has been restoring its status among the jet set, and the Regent is part of the attraction. The resort lies within the Porto Montenegro complex, set on a 450-berth super-yacht marina rimmed by cafés, boutiques and yachting outlets. It lies on the edge of Tivat, in the Bay of Kotor, four miles from Kotor’s Unesco-listed Old Town. The nearest airports are Tivat (3 miles), Dubrovnik (29 miles) and Podgorica (56 miles).

The 51-room and 35-suite deluxe Regent Porto Montenegro is the first and only hotel in the Porto Montenegro super-yacht marina resort. It opened in August 2014 with 57 double bedrooms and 30 one-, two- and three-bedroom suites. The rooms are designed to bring about the feeling of staying on a luxury ship, with the use of wood, fabrics in blues, cream and beige, and a linen canopy above the beds suggesting sails. Most have large balconies with panormaic views of the Adriatic and marina, or the lush greenery of the mountains. All feature flatscreen TV and free WiFi. Bathrooms are spacious and feature deep soaking bathtubs and walk-in showers.

Leisure facilities include infinity pools and vitality pools and the famous Regent Spa offers massages and face and body beauty treatments (Ligne St Barth products), plus sauna, steam room, hammam and experience showers. There’s a gym, a black indoor sea-view pool with hot tub, and an outdoor pool overlooking the marina. Access to the hotel’s secluded beach is exclusively by boat.

Regent Porto Montenegro has three restaurants offer mainly Mediterranean cuisine—the upscale Dining Room, together with the Library Bar, the Gormet Corner and Italian Garden.

How to get here? Fly into Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, or Tivat, Dubrovnik (Croatia), or sail in by yacht at the Porto Montenegro, where the Regent hotel is located.
