Sancerre Pierre Morin 2021 is a delicious wine. From the chalky hills of the Loire, Sauvignon Blanc grapes can produce top class, clean and bright whites that are famous the world over. Jancis Robinson notes: ‘Quite fine, neat and introvert. Tightly laced and bone dry.’ Decanter: ‘Pure, cool and bright.’ Robert Parker’s Wine Adovcate: ‘Pierre Morin continues to impress me as one of his appellation’s most under-appreciated talents … There is nothing small about his vinous success!’

The 2021 is benchmark Sancerre, dry and fresh, with excellent minerality. A rich, gooseberry-leaf style of Sancerre, it is firmly structured and richly aromatic, flavours of grapefruit, gooseberry and lime. Fruity in character and with elegant acidity, this is a winning Sancerre.

It has an excellent pedigree. More than 20 years ago Gérard Morin took over the family’s 1½ hectares of vineyard and his son, Pierre, now runs the property. Pierre spent time working in Australia’s Adelaide Hills and at Domaine Dujac in Burgundy. Over the years the property has grown to nine hectares. The vineyards are among the finest and steepest in Bué. Yields are held low through a spring de-budding (one of Pierre’s main changes) and harvesting is by hand with meticulous sorting prior to vinification. Pierre prefers natural methods in the vineyards and winery, avoiding herbicides and using natural yeasts for fermentation. All white wines are vinified in stainless steel tanks and left to mature on lees for several months.
