£149.00

90/100 points – James Suckling
90/100 points – Stuart Pigott, Trentino-Alto Adige Annual Report

This classy, beautifully balanced Pinot Grigio from Alto Adige, Italy, is a pure wine of great finesse and elegance. It is carefully produced by Franz Haas from grapes growing in optimal conditions in Trentino-Alto Adige, between 300 and 800 metres above sea level. It is elevated well above its station in other ways too: you will find it in the august cellars of the 3 Michelin Star restaurant Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester in Mayfair among others.

It is a delicious wine which can literally be described as a wine of the Old World. It is dry, round and smooth, with an incredibly crisp and velvety texture and a fragrant floral bouquet. It leaves most pinot grigios standing, and the Club Tasting Panel highly commend it to Members.

Notes connoisseur Stuart Pigott in his Trentino-Alto Adige Annual Report, Ambition Triumphs Over Weather: ‘Plenty of flavour to this fruity white, with notes of chopped apples, pears, lemons and honeydew melon. Medium-bodied, bright and fleshy. 90 points.’

The wine is an ideal companion for first courses including pasta, rice and cereal dishes, vegetable dishes and grilled white meat (without dressing). Specifically, it is a perfect match for spinach gratin with almonds, spaghetti with tomato sauce (try with capers!) or cabbage roulades.

The label—in case you are wondering!—was designed by the Italian artist Riccardo Schweizer.
