Hidden Gem: Delicious ‘textbook’ Sancerre, Domaine des Brosses 2019: case of 12 bottles

£197.00

This brilliant Sauvignon Blanc is a hidden gem: it gives the perfect balance between that crisp grapefruit and stony mineral style of Sancerre, and the more unctuous, tropical style. It’s the 2019 Domaine des Brosses, a richly textured, aromatic wine with crisp acidity, textbook minerality, an elegant finish and the refreshment and purity of an excellent modern Sancerre.

Domaine des Brosses was established in 1875 and lies just south of the town of Sancerre. The Girard family modernised the winery and vineyards when they bought the estate in 1973. Nicolas Girard has now taken over his father’s 27 acres estate and, with his brother Anthony, is making wines that are fresh, modern and aromatic. So careful are they that they bring the Sauvignon Blanc to the winery in the coolness of the night, thus retaining the classic citrus aromas and flavours of Sancerre.
This 2019 is delicious: an attractive pale yellow colour, the nose fresh and full of hay, citrus and mineral notes. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp lemon acidity and an appealing, creamy complexity alongside the ripe peach, elderflower and mineral flavours which last well on the long finish.

As textbook Sancerre, it is delicious enjoyed as an aperitif, it pairs perfectly with white fish and shellfish, and it’s a delight with salmon baked with dill. Perfect with salads and raw vegetables, goat’s cheese and green herbs. 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Alcohol level 13%.
