The 2020 vintage of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc is tipped to be the estate’s best yet. Despite the obvious difficulties of 2020, everything else was in its favour and the quality shines through.

New Zealand’s flagship wine, this 2020 Cloudy Bay still stands ahead of the crowd—super intense, packed full of energy and vibrant flavours, it offers ripe, tropical notes alongside the characteristic gooseberry and lime. Mouth-watering and focussed, as ever, it’s the weight and exture across the palate and concentration which makes Cloudy Bay stand apart.

The critics have already begun to give their verdict on the 2020:

James Suckling MW (92/100): ‘A fresh, creamy-textured white with lots of freshness and lovely pear and green-apple character. Some white pineapple. It’s medium-bodied with crisp acidity and a flavorful finish. Less herbs and more clean, ripe fruit.’

Bob Campbell MW, 95/100: ‘Intense and quite weighty Sauvignon Blanc with passionfruit, lime zest, gooseberry, red and green capsicum and subtle oyster-shell flavours, supported by deliciously tangy acidity that drives a lengthy finish.’

The 2020 vintage release is everything a Cloudy Bay Sauvignon should be, concentrated and vibrant, with beautiful citrus and stone fruit characters, but also that certain subtlety and poise that has built its renown around the globe. The vibrancy of this wine comes to the fore by pairing with delicately flavoured dishes—raw oysters, steamed mussels with parsley and garlic, or lemongrass and Thai basil, fresh asparagus, feta and goat’s cheese—and baked salmon with avocado perfectly complement the intense aromas.
