The Baron’s prized white wine: Scammacca Del Murgo Etna Blanco 2021 from Mount Etna: case of 12 bottles delivered

£167.00

90/100, Eric Guido

We are delighted to have secured the delicious dry white wine of a baronial family estate high on the slopes of Sicily’s live volcano, Mount Etna.

Scammacca Del Murgo Etna Blanco is sought after in Sicily—so our Tasting Panel has snapped up a few cases for the Club Cellar to make sure Members don’t miss out.

The wine is made from 70% Caricante and 30% Catarratto Bianco, and it has a rare pedigree: it is made by Baron Emanuele Scammacca del Murgo, former Italian Ambassador and Foreign Affairs minister, who returned to his family’s traditional estate to concentrate on producing his family wines from vines—some original French varieties—on this extreme terroir.

Awarding 90/100 points, Eric Guido notes, ‘The 2021 Etna Bianco opens with cascading floral tones and crushed stone giving way to sweet peach. It’s soft and enveloping, with a bolt of green citrus and riveting acidity that quickly builds tension. This leaves the palate completely refreshed and with a salty concentration. This zesty and mineral-packed Etna Bianco really plays with the palate.’

The Club Tasting Panel note: ‘Very good wine . . . layers of fruit, from lemon and apple to melon, pineapple . . . tinge of honey . . . high activity and minerality, good length.’ Pairs perfectly with white fish dishes, grilled prawns, cauliflower and rice dishes.

Case of 12 bottles. RRP £240. CCUK Members £167 including UK mainland delivery.
