Domain Claude Dugat is a tiny domaine in Burgundy with cult status, and the quality to match. Widely considered one of the top producers in Gevrey-Chambertin, it is a family-run domaine, Claude and Marie-Thérèse and their children—son Bertrand and daughters Laetitia and Jeanne.

This 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin is 100% Pinot Noir grapes from one of the best vintages. Notes William Kelley for RobertParker.com: ‘The 2016 is superb, unfurling in the glass with a youthful bouquet of sweet cassis, wild berries and peony that mingles with subtle hints of candied peel, grilled meat and rich forest floor.

‘On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, pure and velvety, structured around a chassis of fine-grained tannins, underpinned by bright acids and concluding with a strikingly fragrant finish. It’s a beautiful wine that exemplifies the fragrant, precise style Bertrand Dugat and his siblings are coaxing from their family’s enviable patrimony of old and meticulously farmed vines.’

The 2016 is ready for drinking, and will continue to age beautifully. Delicious with duck, goose and game birds.
