This is Pommard by another name: Domaine Chavy-Chouet’s excellent ‘La Taupe’ 2019: its 70-year-old vines march with those of Château Pommard: case of 12 bottles delivered: vintage sold out

£229.00

We apologise but this vintage is now sold out; the new vintage is awaited and will be added to the Cellar on arrival.

This is Pommard by another name. Domaine Chavy-Chouet’s Pinot Noir ‘La Taupe’ is classified as Bourgogne Rouge, yet its fruit is from 70-year-old vines in an excellent single-vineyard site beside Château Pommard itself. It is delicious red Burgundy of a higher calibre than its label can infer, at an excellent Club price.

The vineyards of ‘La Taupe’ were classified as AOC Pommard until the 1970s and the vines were planted as early as 1935. Romaric Chavy is one of the best young winemakers in Burgundy, and the wines offer great value. He is best known for whites, but his reds are also excellent, and this ‘La Taupe’ 2019 is a real gem.

Juicy and easy drinking, yet a wine of serious refinement, the 2019 vintage has superb structure and balance and rounded, sophisticated tannins. It has elegant red berry flavours and a hint of earthy spice. Drinking well now, it can be cellared for up to a decade.

Perfect match for game and poultry.
